Texas' Drug and Alcohol Driving
Awareness Program was originally developed by
Driver Training Associates, Inc. to teach drivers
how alcohol and drugs affect a person's body and
mind, how they affect driving, and the legal and
societal consequences of drinking (or using drugs)
and driving. The popular drug and alcohol driving
awareness program has been a staple of the Texas
court system for several years, as judges and
courts have required completion of the course
for various types of drug and alcohol related
offenses.
How does the
5% mandatory insurance discount work?
Texas law (76[R] HB
3757) authorizes a
mandatory 5% automobile insurance discount for
any Texas driver who completes a State-approved
drug and alcohol driving awareness program such
as the one offered on our website. Once you pass
the course, you will receive a certificate to
turn in to your insurance carrier. Please contact
your insurance carrier to find out how the 5%
discount for your completion of the drug and alcohol
driving awareness program will be applied to your
policy.
Note: You are not eligible for an insurance
discount if you take the drug and alcohol driving
awareness program for the purpose of fulfilling
an obligation to a Texas court for a drug or alcohol
related offense. In order to receive the insurance
discount, you must select the "insurance
discount" option when you sign up for the
drug and alcohol driving awareness program.
Doesn't the
Drug and Alcohol Driving Awareness Program have
to be completed in a classroom?
Absolutely not! Until 2008, the drug and alcohol
driving awareness program was only offered through
licensed Texas classroom agencies, either as part
of a drivers ed curriculum or as a stand-alone
course. In 2008, Driver Training Associates, the
company that pioneered the classroom version of
DADAP, became the first company approved by the
Texas Education Agency to offer the drug and alcohol
driving awareness program in an alternative delivery
method format (i.e. online). Again, the online
drug and alcohol driving awareness course is fully
approved by the TEA and can be taken for an insurance
discount or to fulfill the requirement of a Texas
court.
